What are the disadvantages of using Interactive Multimedia in students learning?
ReplyDeleteThere are two category of disadvantages in using Multimedia/Interactive Multimedia which are the Practical and Educational Disadvantages and these are the following:
DeleteFirst, Practical Disadvantages of using Interactive Multimedia:
The lessons or components of lessons delivered via video or image require computers, projectors and other electronic devices depending upon the subject and the amount of original material a teacher creates. The expense associated with quality projectors or computers for every student can be quite high, and the amount of images and videos in a lesson can slow down the delivery and pace of the class as a result. Student access to computers at home may also cause problems, and varying quality of student electronic devices can create inequity in projects and presentations.
Second, is the Educational Disadvantages of using Interactive multimedia:
When you were designing a multimedia learning experience, the role of the teacher shifts from instructor to facilitator. If a lesson allows students to complete learning at their own pace as they move through stages of learning, classroom management becomes increasingly difficult. This is particularly true if students work in groups to view multimedia sources or share computers. Additionally, students who are not as proficient with technology may have to spend more time learning computer skills to access information than focusing on course materials.
Is Facebook considered as an interactive Multimedia? How it helps the students in their lessons?
ReplyDeleteYes of course, maybe it's not here but it can help you as a student to learn about your previous, present, or future lessons. Because, Facebook isn't just a great way for you to find old friends or post about what's happening in you in this weekend, but you know, it is also an incredible learning tool. Teachers can utilize Facebook for class projects, for enhancing communication, and for engaging students in a manner that might not be entirely possible in traditional classroom settings. For example, you can ask your friends in some information you need. Also, there are several games that can practice your vocabulary and IQ like crosswords, math problems. Also you can collaborate easily by your classmates because there are Group chats you can use this as a brainstorming group chat box. So I hope you learn something. There's a lot more reason why facebook consider as a interactive multimedia and I give you plenty of it. Thankyou :)
DeleteHi Ma'am Karen, is using interactive multimedia have disadvantages? Can you list some?
ReplyDeleteYes, of course. so despite of the positive impacts that interactive multimedia had on education, there is always room for improvement. For example, Your security and privacy, other users can see your personal informations that can be use to do illegal transaction without your knowledge. Also, you can't tell whether the information you watched is valid and true. It would be very difficult to monitor if the person were using correct information, or not. Also, E-Learning does not necessarily provide a good match for face-to-face communication and it is more linear than face-to-face discussion. So there you have it. And I want tell you that you must be responsible in using Multimedia. I hope you learn something. Thankyou.
DeleteCan we use these multimedia content in our studies? If yes, on what ways?
ReplyDeleteYes, of course. You can really use these multimedia in your studies. For instance, you can watch and upload tutorial videos in youtube that is a really big help to a student like you, you can use it if you want to know something in a specific topic. Next is Online test, you can test your own learning if you really have a knowledge about it, it can display the result of your test as soon as you finish it, so that you can know if you are good on it. Next is Courseware you can learn from it and you can see many tutorials that you want to learn, the teacher can teach you even if your not on a classroom. So there you have it. I hope you learn something.
DeleteMa'am Karen what is the connection of CBT with your topic Interactive Multimedia? thanks :)
ReplyDeleteComputer-Based Training (CBT) is any course of instruction in a computer. A CBT course sometimes called courseware may be delivered via a software product installed on a single computer. So back to your question, Yes of course, there's a connection between the two. For example, the E-Learning and the CBT can reduced learning time, you as a student can progress at their own pace, it is a complete flexibility that has no rigid scheduling requirements and no limit on number of students with access to training modules. I hope you learn something.
DeleteAside the medias you've stated above, what are the other interactive multimedia can we use?
ReplyDeleteHi! I think, you can also use Powerpoint or Slideshows presentation like Prezi, Present.me and etc. Also you can use Edmodo for interactive learning, the teacher can post the topics in the Edmodo and the students can read it and learn from it. Also in Edmodo the teacher can facilitate online quizzes that can show the outcome or result of the lesson you have learned.
DeleteHow reliable are these sources when it comes to acquiring information?
ReplyDeleteHi! The sources above can really give you much information about education,
DeleteYouTube is reliable interms of it's tutorials movies and other educational videos that can be watched and downloaded.
Souncloud is reliable because you can use Soundcloud to listen to music. Soundcloud is mostly used by independent and up and coming artists. This makes it the perfect platform to find out about the next big thing before record labels do, and to listen to music that is off the beaten track. Try to find singer-songwriters that sing in your target language as they often provide songs with long texts. These artists often also produce pretty stripped down songs as far as musical arrangement is concerned, which will make it easier for you to understand what they are singing about. Soundcloud is really important especially for Music students.
Online Games is not only for playing some games but it is used as a educational motivation for the students who is bored and want something new to try. The teacher must be responsible in giving task to the students intems of games, the teacher must site online games like board games and other educational games.
Online Test is reliable because it can help the students as well as the teacher to give test in online like edmodo.
Courseware is reliable for those who doesn't have time to go to school everyday. It is useful because you can really learn just by the help of your computer and your online instructor.
Podcasts and Vodcasts is reliable in education because it opens many doors for students and teachers. It allows educators to reach students using a medium they are accustomed to. Student today are digital natives. Even very young students have spent time online reading email, playing games, looking up information, or communicating with friends. It can be used to interact with students and parents beyond the four walls of a classroom and can be a great facilitator to increase student engagement. It's also an inexpensive way to create digital content for your classroom. It is not just for high school or higher education but can also be used by elementary and middle school students.
All of these are reliable in acquiring information or acquiring knowledge, but you as a user you must be responsible in doing, posting and watching in these kinds of Interactive Multimedia. Thankyou Micah! I hope you learn something :)
Is Powerpoint can be considered as an interactive multimedia?
ReplyDeleteYes, it can be considered as an interactive multimedia because students can create a group slideshows that can be use as their group learning activities. Also Powerpoints supports hyperlinks and sound features that can be incorporated to construct interactive multimedia presentations. Chances are you know how to use program and will simply need time to enhance a pre-existing slideshows. Although Powerpoint is primarily utilized as a presentation program, by incorporating hyperlinks with slides, you can easily create an interactive presentation that provides opportunities for students like you to employ higher learning.
DeleteWhat is the difference of youtube to Vodcasts?
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen! Actually the vodcasts is just under the Youtube. Practically saying, the YouTube is the superior and the Vodcasts is just one of the content of the YouTube. These two can be used as a medium of teaching students. You can either use Vodcasts or YouTube, so don't be confused. Thankyou! I hope I have answered your question. :)
Deletewhat kind of intelligence I can acquired when i use this multimedia?
ReplyDeleteThere are nine types of Intelligence and it is called as Multiple Intelligence and it is made by Dr. Howard Gardner. So back to your question, The first intelligence that you can acquired when you used this multimedia is the * Linguistic/Verbal Intelligence because Linguistic learners find language a natural way not only to understand, absorb, and retain the eLearning materials. Therefore, eLearning activities that include narratives, like storytelling and scenarios, or discussions, like online discussions, are ideal for such learners. Furthermore, links to relevant resources such as eLearning blogs and articles that include additional information concerning the subject matter may be particularly helpful like this blog. Second, is the * Logical/Mathematical Intelligence, because logical learners enjoy problem solving. This is why eLearning activities that include logical reasoning tasks, graphics, charts, or tables, as well as critical thinking branching scenarios, where your learners are required to find the answer using a series of clues, can significantly help them to analyze information in a logical manner, and thus easily memorize it. Third, is the * Spatial/Visual Intelligence, because visual learners respond well to color, images, illustrations, and graphics, as well as games and multimedia that are visually appealing. Consider integrating these elements into your eLearning course. Fourth, is the Musical Intelligence, when you are a fond of music like musical learners you can think and learn in terms of music, which means that they respond particularly well to eLearning material that includes music and sound, such as multimedia presentations with audio. The example of this is the Podcasts, Sound, Music or Audio and YouTube. Fifth, is the Kinesthetic/Bodily Intelligence, you can acquired this intelligence not because your doing something who can make you tired like outdoor sports and other things but with the involvement such as drag and drop interactions, eLearning games, and simulations and includes several interactive methods and techniques to encourage kinesthetic learners feel, touch, move, and manipulate objects. Sixth is the Interpesonal Intelligence, interactive multimedia learning is far by the most effective way to engage interpersonal learners who really enjoy learning by collaborating, interacting, and building relationships with their peers. It encourage them to exchange ideas and share their concerns in online discussions in and out of social media. Seventh is the Intrapersonal Intelligence it impacts the E learning by focusing on the internal aspects of learning. Therefore, they are more likely to be motivated when asked to think how to apply what they are learning to their own lives. Scenarios that offer real world benefits is ideal for them, as they become more engaged when introspecting and reflecting. It will help them gain a sense of what they want to achieve or what are the mistakes to avoid in their personal or professional lives in the real world. So there you have it, Out of 9 intelligence you can get 7 of it. Now that you know about multiple intelligences in eLearning and how it impacts you as a learner. You will find the different ways in which Multiple Intelligence Theory can be implemented in this kind of multimedia that can help you, the learner, to effectively acquire, retain, and utilize the information being provided within the interactive multimedia given above. I hope you learn something. Thankyou for the very educational question you've asked. Till next time.
DeleteMaam Karen, does interactive multimedias affects the study habits of the students??
ReplyDeleteHi Jolina! Yes of course, did you know that the use of multimedia in teaching and learning presents the challenges to the institutions of higher learning. Multimedia technology affects both aspects of teaching and learning. It does this in three ways: First, in how it presents the information needed whether if the students will learn from it or not.
DeleteSecond, in how students interact both with the teacher and learners, if the students can really interact and join within the discussion whether in Multimedia or in traditional classroom; and
Third, in how knowledge is structured within the multimedia whether the teacher teach exactly what the students really need to learn.
What is the disadvantage of playing games in education?
ReplyDeleteHi! Based on Dr. Heather Coffey, from The UNC School of Education states, "Games may be more distracting than a typical learning tool and that the goals of the games do not necessarily always align with the learning goals of the classroom." There is an idea that students aren't actually learning anything, they are only wasting their time and playing games rather than becoming educated.
DeleteI will give you 4 disadvantages of playing games in education and these are the following;
First is Physical Strain, its easy to feel addicted to computer and online games and when you use it in a very long period of time it can result neck aches, back aches, repetitive strain injuries, eyestrain, headaches, fatigue and mood swings. Shortly, it can harm yourself.
Second is the mental effects that you can gain. For instance, learners may want to play until they win the game and this determination can cause low self-esteem and aggressive behavior, especially if the learners keep losing at the game. Additionally, because these games can become so addicting, overuse can cause social isolation and poor social skills.
Third, the educational games can also be a major time-waster, taking away from time that the learners could spend studying, being active or participating in social events.
Lastly, it can cause negative behaviors, it may encourage violence.
That's all. I hope you learn something. Thankyou!:)

Just use multimedia in good things and it is more useful if you use it on your studies. That's all. Thankyou!
Interactive social media can both give advantage and disadvantage for students. So how should we limit ourselves ma'am? If only there's a pop-up message from this sites that will allow us to know if we are still in boundaries.
ReplyDeleteHi Cesiah! You as a student should limit yourself to be responsible in the online world, you must think before you use or post something that can be use on you. ReplyDeleteHi Kate! Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them either publicly or privately on the app. Back to your question if the instagram is considered as an Interactive Multimedia. My answer is a yes and a no. Yes, interms of it's features which is Photo-sharing and Video-Sharing, it is educational when the picture is about educational but many of the user of it only shares the picture or video of them. DeleteWhat are the disadvantages of using Interactive Multimedia
ReplyDeleteHi Noel! There are two category of disadvantages in using Multimedia/Interactive Multimedia which are the Practical and Educational Disadvantages and these are the following:
DeleteFirst, Practical Disadvantages of using Interactive Multimedia:
The lessons or components of lessons delivered via video or image require computers, projectors and other electronic devices depending upon the subject and the amount of original material a teacher creates. Mam Acc. to other blogs, source of information from multimedia comes from diff. people like us. What is the assurance mam, na the information coming from the subject-matter is legible for us student?
ReplyDeleteYou must only trust information from the one you really know. For example, your teachers and your friends.
DeleteI can say that they are very useful. They can help us visualize difficulties in our studies
ReplyDeleteInteractive Multimedia sure is an entertainment for most technology users. But surely, some cases/issues would definitely appear/pop-up like maybe some abuse or some insults. So, in using interactive multimedia, how can you ensure your security and are there limitations or restrictions when using it?
ReplyDeleteIn using Interactive Multimedia, you must be responsible in posting and sharing a post. As a grade 11 student I know that you know your limitations about this you must only go to a website that is truly trustworthy. Just think about the consequences in doing things. Just don't go to unrestricted sites that can harm you mentally and emotionally and maybe worst, physically.

That's all. Thanks. :)
Browser-based games , I think its not good because it was dominated once by the Java/Flash that really not suits for gaming and it almost consumed your RAM(memory) unlike Client-based games that can hold good and better graphics for gaming purposes . Browser-based games has also an advantages because its accessible , user friendly and easy to play but you need enough and good quality of an internet because its running through browser.

Ma'am do you think interactive multimedia can help us students? What is it's disadvantages?
Thankyou.
